Breakfast at leisure before heading off to explore Delhi, with its bustling markets, vibrant street life, and amazing monuments, including:
•Red Fort – this magnificent sandstone monument, referred to locally as “Lal Quila” and commissioned by the fifth Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan in 1639. It represents the apex of Mughal creativity and is a blend of Persian, Islamic and Hindu styles.
•Jama Masjid – the largest mosque in India that can house up to 25,000 people in a single prayer session. This is another of Shah Jahan’s creations, also built in local sandstone between 1644 and 1658.
•Qutub Minar, also known as “The Tower of Victory” is a much earlier monument, constructed c.1193 by Qutab-ud-din Aibak, surrounded by a lush green garden.
•Humayun’s Tomb – India’s first great dynastic mausoleum, surrounded by gardens and built in 1570 by Mughal emperor Humayun’s wife, Bega Begum. Overnight stay in Delhi.
